PC-Based DVR Systems VS. Standalone DVR Systems
A DVR is a Digital Video Recorder. This is a device that will record video from multiple cameras, onto a Hard Drive so that you can playback video at a later date. DVR recorders come in 2 different styles, PC-Based Recorders, and Standalone DVRs. PC-Based DVR Cards will install into your own PC and will generally provide higher quality recording, as well as better remote access features. Some of our High End PC-Based DVR Cards will even allow for viewing live and pre-recorded footage from a Laptop, or even a PocketPC or Windows Mobile 5 PDA or PDA Phone. Standalone DVRs will record onto a hard drive, but do not require a PC. Standalone DVRs look like a VCR, but are infinitely more advanced. All of our Standalone DVRs will even allow you to record only when Motion is detected, and they record onto a PC-Style hard drive, so you will never need to change tapes again. The Standalone Recorders, while a bit more basic, are great for most Home CCTV Camera Systems and Small business based CCTV Systems, as they can be plugged into a standard television and controlled with the included IR remote control. We have CCTV Systems pre-built for you in 2, 4, 8, or 16 camera varieties, that come with either a DVR Card and software for use with your PC (PC-Based Systems) or a Standalone DVR recorder (Standalone DVR Packages).
Wiring your CCTV System
We also quite often get questions about how to wire up your Home or Business CCTV System. Many home or business owners will run the cables themselves. With our Combination Power/Video cables, it is as easy as dropping a single cable behind your drywall, through your attic or over your drop ceiling to get it to the camera from the location of your recorder. For more difficult installations, we highly recommend calling in a phone-jack or network installer, Cable TV or Satellite TV installer or general electrician. Each of these individuals are highly trained in running low-voltage cabling almost identical to the cables for your CCTV System.
